Insurance Auditors & Consultants
John Wilkes
London General was owned by Combined Specialty Group in the USA, which was an Aon company. I was recruited to take over prime responsibility for Irish Contractors Liability business and to produce and develop a new book of Solicitors professional indemnity. I also looked after reinsurance purchasing and worked on plans for future growth.
My initial involvement in what was then a new insurance company (owned by General Cologne Re) incorporated the structuring of the business plan, bringing business contacts to the table, arranging underwriting authorisations and the placing of a major portion of the outward reinsurance programme in the US market.
In due course I underwrote a Casualty account of a somewhat diverse and innovative nature, predominantly in conjunction with Lloyds’ brokers, and as an active member of the management team that ran the operation, was involved in liaison with Accounts and IT services to ensure relevant reporting and management information.
I originally joined the Company as London Market Liability Underwriter in its days trading as Minster. In due course I became the manager of Specialty Lines which encompassed International Property and Onshore Energy as well as General Liability, Professional Indemnity and Financial Risks.
Additionally I was responsible for substantial outward reinsurance purchase and, as a director of the London Company, was involved in the strategy, planning and regular review of all the business underwritten throughout the London operation.
